FiasCON!

This is a hack to play Fiasco! scenarios using RPG trade shows as the background of your "movie".  First edition of this thing has been written in colloquial Italian, with an eye to that small, noisy microcosmos that is the Italian roleplaying gaming world. Hence, there are lot of things that might not be obvious for gamers living on the other side of the pond. Even with these little defects, I think that this hack should be quite playable, provided you have at least attended one big gaming convention in your gaming life.
Lastly, I tried to mantain the colloquial tone I used in the Italian version, but I'm sure that some error in translation crept in (It'd be no Fiasco scenario if  I managed to write it right first time, right? Great plans, great ambitions, poor gramm^H^H^H^H^H impulse control...), so bear with me and try to enjoy this hack. And while this  thing  is free to copy, distribute, print, download, boil your spaghetti and the like, I require you to give me credit somehow. Having said that...

FiasCON!

Fiasco è un gioco della Bully Pulpit Games che parla di persone comuni dotate di ambizione smodate e maledette da uno scarso controllo dei loro impulsi. In una parola, il gioco di ruolo dei film dei Fratelli Cohen (Blood simple, Fargo, Il Grande Lebowsky).

FiasCON! è il mio supplemento, scritto di getto in un'ora scarsa che permette di ambientare Fiasco nel clima puzzolente ed infuocato delle con ludiche italiane :-) Come i piani dei film Coheniani, non garantisco la riuscita!

Diaspora Biasola Session - The Cluster

This cluster is a result of a Diaspora demo session lasting about six hour held on a local convention in Reggio Emilia, Italy, on Jan 16th, 2010. Hope you Diaspora aficionados, contributors and (why not?) authors, read and like this report.

Suggerimenti per game designers

Grazie ad un post sul blog di Tartofrez, ho trovato questi suggerimenti per game designers: Designing Story Based Games, da parte dell'autore del famoso Prince Of Persia, nonché di altri giochi.

Certo, sono destinati soprattutto ai designers di videogiochi, ma credo che anche l'aspirante creatore di giochi di ruolo possa fare tesoro di questi suggerimenti.

1. The story is what the player does, not what he watches.
2. List the actions the player actually performs in the game and take a cold hard look at it. Does it sound like fun? (Resist the temptation to embellish. If a cinematic shows the player’s character sneak into a compound, clobber a guard and put on his uniform, the player’s action is “Watch cinematic.” Letting the player click to clobber the guard isn’t much better.)
3. The only significant actions are those that affect the player’s ability to perform future actions. Everything else is bells and whistles.
4. Design a clear and simple interface. The primary task of the interface is to present the player with a choice of the available actions at each moment and to provide instant feedback when the player makes a choice.
5. The player needs a goal at all times, even if it’s a mistaken one. If there’s nothing specific he wishes to accomplish, he will soon get bored, even if the game is rich with graphics and sound.
6. The more the player feels that the events of the game are being caused by his own actions, the better — even when this is an illusion.
7. Analyze the events of the story in terms of their effect on the player’s goals. For each event, ask: Does this move the player closer to or further away from a goal, or give him a new goal? If not, it’s irrelevant to the game.
8. The longer the player plays without a break, the more his sense of the reality of the world is built up. Any time he dies or has to restart from a saved game, the spell is broken.
9. Alternative paths, recoverable errors, multiple solutions to the same problem, missed opportunities that can be made up later, are all good.
10. Don’t introduce gratuitous obstacles just to create a puzzle.
11. As the player moves through the game, he should have the feeling that he is passing up potentially interesting avenues of exploration. The ideal outcome is for him to win the game having done 95% of what there is to do, but feeling that there might be another 50% he missed.

Ok, il titolo non è originale, ma è preso da questo thread apparso su gentechegioca.it, e si riferisce al fatto che la Mongoose Publishing pubblicherà, nel 2010, un meraviglioso Manuale del Master, inteso non nel senso reso celebre da D&D, ma nel senso "imparare a fare il master".

Ora, per chi si diverte coi GDR old-school, questo può essere un bene, anche se il sottoscritto ha imparato nella maniera più dura ed efficace possibile: ascoltando i commenti delle sue vitt...ehm, dei suoi giocatori con la necessaria umiltà e facendo tesoro dei loro suggerimenti.

Per chi gioca ai cosidetti giochi new wave, invece, questo manuale risulterà essere inutile, dal momento che una delle caratteristiche peculiari -- e a mio avviso positive -- di questi giochi è quella di incidere con una sacrosanta iconoclastìa sul precedentemente sacro ruolo del GM. Non sta a me dire il come ed il perché: andate su Gente che gioca e fate due chiacchere.

Ritornando all'argomento del titolo, e alla mission di questo sito, non posso fare a meno di segnalarvi questo PDF, purtroppo in francese, che contiene un centinaio di suggerimenti a costo zero che, sono disposto a scommetterci una e una sola birra media, troverete pagando fior di euri nel tomo della Mongoose.

Ebbene sì, ho cambiato casa: ho spostato il tutto sotto Blogger.

Per lungo tempo avevo pensato di spostare il tutto sotto Wordpress, ma poi ho spostato il tutto sotto blogger perché:

• Farsi il tema di Wordpress non è banale: ce ne ho uno in cantiere, ma non mi ispira. Ci si mette quasi di meno a scriversi la propria piattaforma di blog da zero ;-)
• Ok, Wordpress è potente -- ma ho realmente bisogno di tutta questa potenza? Per ora no, e se ne avrò bisogno Wordpress importa pure i dump di Blogger

Detto questo, un paio di cose:
